Frequently Asked Questions
What are the requirements to be approved as a franchisee?
Primarily we are seeking candidates who have experience in the restaurant industry - those who presently or in the past have owned/operated a successful food service establishment. The financial requirements are to have least $300,000 cash available with a minimum net worth of $1.5 million.
After entering into a franchise agreement how long will it take to open my restaurant?
The timeframe to open a restaurant is really dependent upon how long it takes to identify an acceptable site - one that is approved by BFCI. The timeframe for the build-out or renovation if it's existing space is typically four months; and to build from the ground up usually takes about five to six months.
I have a site in mind. What is the site review process?
First of all, we look for sites with outstanding accessibility, visibility and activity. To obtain accurate statistics regarding these important aspects of the real estate, it's important to review current demographics and a site plan - typically aerials. These are the first tools we use to evaluate any potential site. We always recommend you consider and negotiate on more than just one site. In fact, the best position to be in is actively negotiating on three or four sites so that you are in a much stronger negotiating position. Once you have homed in on these sites and franchise negotiations are finalized a BFCI representative will visit the trade area to offer insight, recommendations and final approval.
Does BFCI assign territories to Buffalo's Southwest Café franchisees?
Franchisees do have the ability to reserve territory under an Area Development Agreement. All we have to agree upon is the territory and number of restaurants realistic for the area you wish to reserve. The timeframe for build out of restaurant number two under an Area Development Agreement is typically 18-24 months after the opening of the first restaurant. Future openings typically accelerate in intervals of 12-18 months for the duration of the agreement.
What is the average restaurant sales volume?
Under FTC regulations we are not permitted to make earnings claims. Restaurant volumes vary based on the size, location and management of the restaurant. If you pursue the Buffalo's Southwest Café franchise opportunity, then later in the discovery process you will have an opportunity to speak directly with some of our franchisees regarding their experiences with the brand.
What are the average food/labor costs for a Buffalo's Southwest Café?
Food costs should run 28% to 30%; and labor 26% to 30% if the restaurant is managed effectively.
How much should I expect to pay a restaurant operator?
Typically GM's earn in the mid-high $30's to low $40's, with a bonus incentive based upon how well they manage the business and drive sales; so with salary and bonus incentive GM's have the ability to make $50,000 to $60,000. .
What makes Buffalo's Southwest Café different from its competitors?
From a customer standpoint, we believe, what gives our concept strength is our menu as well as our unique décor and curb appeal. We feature many southwest style appetizers and entrees, accompanied by a variety of other tasty favorites such as our world famous buffalo-style chicken wings (fresh, not frozen), homemade dressings, award winning chili, bountiful salads, steaks, desserts and more. We provide a comfortable, friendly and unique interior setting for casual dining; and price-wise remain on the value-end. Additionally, our newest prototype facilities enhance the appeal of the brand with a distinct exterior architecture, signage and color scheme. Simply stated, our menu and facilities appeal to singles, families, the business community and even large groups for lunch and dinner. Take-out, catering and gift card purchases are also popular among our regular customers.
For those considering a casual dining restaurant franchise, Buffalo's Southwest Café offers a 20-year proven franchise system, comprehensive training and development with business growth and development opportunities available nationwide for single and multi-unit operators. Additionally, the entrepreneurial energy associated with strong founder/owner involvement creates an exciting momentum for the entire system.
